With ghungroos on the ankles of her models Payal set the mood for the collection as Umrao Jaan’s sound track serenaded the audience with a mix of some fusion beats.
Sensational, fluid and seductively flowing sheer anarkalis and diaphanous lehengas glided down the ramp evoking visions of Umrao Jaan and Lady Gaga – two complete contrasting fashion icons. Shimmering New Age metallic fabrics were teamed with soft pretty pastels and embellished with the richness of mukaish, filigree, resham and zardozi work.
Presenting an absolutely stunning bridal collection glittering with crystals, polkis and vintage embroidery; Payal gave bridal wear a fusion touch. Shades of cream, ivory, nude, blush melon, apricot, champagne, ash green, sea blue, sage green, were selected for lush fabrics like tulle, brocades, and silks. Kalidar kurtas, ornate blouses, glittering lehengas, kurtas with shimmering churidars - the look was pure opulence.
The embroidery was used cleverly as crystals and polkis shimmered on yokes, as necklaces, were draped over shoulders, and gleamed in zardozi splendor on the lehengas, blouses and dupattas. Going for a brief western diversion, Payal had a taffeta bubble dress with ebony and gold crystal waist belt while another in champagne brocade with a melon tulle bodice was teamed with a magnificent Egyptian necklace.
Show stopper Shibani Dandekar, popular singer and dancer wowed the audience with her sparkling smile and wearing a gorgeous lehenga with tasseled tiers and a crystal drenched choli. Accompanying her were two tiny models in ornate ethnic wear which heralded the launch of Payal Singhal’s kid’s wear line.
For the 21st century bride, Payal Singhal’s bridal collections will not only add style and glamour but an amazing, opulent and unconventional addition to the wardrobe.
